I was in the north bank over towards the chicken run- I seem to remember that Archie Gemmill was involved at the start and Todd got involved - Gemmill escaped being booked but it was very heated with Billy looking like a pirate with a full beard .

Probably claret-tinted specs and the ravages of time on memory, but I think I remember thinking Bonds was playing bloody well and Todd wasn't, so the sendings off were worse news for us than them

You were right about it being Birmingham and your account of it is pretty much how I remember it as well

They both went to ground in a 50/50 tackle, Bonds wasn’t keen on how it went, there was a bit of mutual kicking before they got upright and that’s as much as I remember.

Good player was Colin Todd, still having said that, I hope Billy marked his fucking card

Oops,,,, It was Colin Todd, Billy talks about it in the They Played for Joh Lyall book. I think John got a few players out of the shit. Paul Ince got in a fight and two coppers turned up at Chadwell Heath. John smoothed it over, called Ince a pipsqueak and told him to sort himself out. Think Keith Robson got into a bit of trouble as well but admits he got into trouble a bit too often for John to bail him out all the time!

I thought it was Todd playing for Birmingham. I had a pretty good view of it, as it goes.

Was it Colin Todd against Derby?

Re: Billy Bonds and the 1980 cup final.
Yes, He got involved in a bit of a melee with an opposition player (I think it was against WBA) and they both got sent off. John Lyall went to the FA Hearing and Bonds got let off so he could play in the Final.
